How to Prevent Getting Sick4/4/2023 ![]() As with any cold and flu season, no one wants to be sidelined for a few weeks and not be able to enjoy their active lifestyle. Everyone’s wondering how to prevent getting sick, and there is a lot of information out there providing different recommendations on how to not get sick. So here are a few tips from the World Health Organization: ● Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. ● Maintain social distancing by maintaining at least 1 meter (3 feet) distance between yourself and others, even if they are not showing symptoms. ● Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick. ● Practice respiratory hygiene by making sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately. Also, here are some additional healthy tips from AFC Chiropractic: ● Continue to get chiropractic adjustments regularly. Keeping your spine aligned goes hand in hand with keeping your immune system strong and healthy. See why chiropractic care is good for your immune system. ● Take supplements that boost your immune system such as vitamin C, elderberry, zinc, and vitamin D3. ● Get plenty of rest. ● Exercise daily, even if it’s a moderate amount. ● Don’t overindulge in foods that are high in fat, sodium, or sugar. Decrease alcohol intake as these things decrease your immune response. Together, we can fight this. So let’s practice what the WHO is saying: Be safe from the coronavirus. Be smart and inform yourself about it. Be kind and support one another. Here at AFC, we value your health and want you to live life to the fullest.
