How to Prevent Getting Sick4/4/2023 As with any cold and flu season, no one wants to be sidelined for a few weeks and not be able to enjoy their active lifestyle. Everyone’s wondering how to prevent getting sick, and there is a lot of information out there providing different recommendations on how to not get sick. So here are a few tips from the World Health Organization: ● Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. ● Maintain social distancing by maintaining at least 1 meter (3 feet) distance between yourself and others, even if they are not showing symptoms. ● Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick. ● Practice respiratory hygiene by making sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately. Also, here are some additional healthy tips from AFC Chiropractic: ● Continue to get chiropractic adjustments regularly. Keeping your spine aligned goes hand in hand with keeping your immune system strong and healthy. See why chiropractic care is good for your immune system. ● Take supplements that boost your immune system such as vitamin C, elderberry, zinc, and vitamin D3. ● Get plenty of rest. ● Exercise daily, even if it’s a moderate amount. ● Don’t overindulge in foods that are high in fat, sodium, or sugar. Decrease alcohol intake as these things decrease your immune response. Together, we can fight this. So let’s practice what the WHO is saying: Be safe from the coronavirus. Be smart and inform yourself about it. Be kind and support one another. Here at AFC, we value your health and want you to live life to the fullest. Please call our offices if you have any questions or concerns.

Chiropractic for Back Pain3/23/2023 If you have back pain, chiropractic may be able to help. Chiropractors are primary-care physicians who diagnose and treat patients using manual therapies, exercise, and lifestyle recommendations. Chiropractic care is a non-invasive, drug-free approach focused on diagnosing and treating mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine, using manual spinal manipulations and other techniques to align the body's musculoskeletal structures and promote healing.
Studies have also shown that chiropractic care can help treat neck pain and headaches. Additionally, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia may respond to moderate pressure applied by both chiropractors and deep tissue massage practitioners. Chiropractic for Back Pain: How It WorksChiropractic for back pain works by supporting and strengthening your back with a healthy end range of movement while reducing inflammation and improving circulation. Spinal manipulation and chiropractic care are widely recognized as safe and effective treatments for acute low back pain, a type of sudden injury from moving, lifting heavy furniture, or playing contact sports. Chiropractors use a variety of techniques to manipulate the spine and correct these misalignments. These back and neck chiropractic techniques may include:

For some individuals, special chiropractic adjustments may help lower blood pressure. This is because the spine affects many parts of your body, including your heart and blood flow. Watch this video for more information:
Recap: Spinal alignment has been proven to be connected to overall health, including blood pressure. Specifically, the C1 vertebra at the top of the spine has been shown to be critical to healthy blood pressure. In a study of 25 patients who received a C1 adjustment and 25 who received a placebo procedure, the patients who received the C1 chiropractic adjustment experienced lowered blood pressure by an average of 17 points. Patients normally require 2 blood pressure medications to achieve the same results. Traditional blood pressure treatment can be supplemented or even replaced with chiropractic care. Through a C1 adjustment, patients achieve improved circulation and reduced pain. The improved blood flow allows oxygen and nutrients to reach the different parts of the body faster, improving overall health. The bottom line is if you or a loved one have high blood pressure, you are likely to experience lowered blood pressure and improved overall health through chiropractic care. You may even be able to stop taking blood pressure medication through a C1 adjustment. See how your health can be improved through chiropractic care. AFC is not your average chiropractic clinic.
