Lower back pain is the #1 condition that chiropractors help. The exact way in which each patient finds back pain relief is slightly different, just as each individual is different. As we meet each new patient, we, look at all the lower back pain symptoms and other factors together. Lower back pain can be caused by many different things: injury at work, sleeping in an odd position, improper exercise, and more. This is why AFC Physical Medicine and Chiropractic Centers use an integrated approach to provide long-term relief for lower back pain.
Step 2: Initial Visit
AFC’s holistic approach to lower back pain will help you get to the root cause of the pain and provide relief, both near-instant pain relief each visit and continued pain relief throughout your treatment. An initial visit in one of our 7 AFC locations starts with a convenient appointment time. From there, our case manager sits down with you 1-on-1 for a detailed consultation to find out how your lower back pain started. Over the years, I have found that certain traumatic or life experiences can lead to your current lower back symptoms. Many times you don’t even realize that these situations are the cause!
Step 2: Comprehensive Lower Back Pain Exam
Our next step is a comprehensive spinal exam performed by our Doctor of Chiropractic and a Physician’s Assistant. After our providers have the information from the exam, an x-ray may be necessary to check for any abnormalities, such as a herniated disc, or misalignment of your spine that may also be the cause of your lower back pain. During your next visit, we will provide a report of all our findings. This will show you a complete picture of your back pain and its interlinked causes, along with care recommendations. In my 13 years as a chiropractor, I have found out that what works the best is a combination of services we offer.
Step 3: Integrated Treatment Approach
We start with physical therapy which helps stretch and strengthen the muscles of your lower back to improve postural changes. In-office massage therapy with every visit reduces lower back symptoms caused by muscle spasms and trigger points found in your muscles. Trigger point injections with natural botanicals are done by our physician’s assistant and they target specific problem areas in your lower back. Learn more about trigger point injections.
Step 4: Chiropractic Back Adjustment
At the end of each visit, our Chiropractors will gently align specific bones in your lower back that are out of alignment. A flexion distraction table may be used to reduce pressure from a lower back disc problem if it’s compressing the sciatic nerve. Often, it’s pressure against the sciatic nerve that causes the sensation of pain related to lower back problems, whether that pressure comes from spinal alignment issues, a herniated disc, or other problems. After the back adjustment is performed, you feel immediate relief while also working towards a long-term solution.
