Helping on a Global Scale

You may know that our mission at AFC is to help as many people as possible restore their health and get them back to enjoying life again.

But you might not know is that AFC strives to make a lasting impact through local and global efforts too! For many years, each of our clinics has partnered with local charities such as Open Arms Food Bank, Friends for Life Animal Rescue, and Save the Family Foundation.

Now we have some big news to share: we want to help people on a global scale. Recently we've partnered with Charity: Water in an effort to transform lives around the world by providing access to clean water.

So why water?

For people in developing countries, clean water can change everything. Currently, 663 million people in the world live without clean water. Unbelievable, right? Sadly, it's the reality that many live in today, but we at AFC are determined to help make a difference for communities in need.

Access to safe drinking water is perhaps the single most powerful tool for sparking economic growth that humanity has ever known. Clean water has the ability to make these lasting efforts:

Improved health: Diseases from dirty water kill more people every year than all forms of violence, but access to clean water and basic sanitation can save around 16,000 lives every week.
Education: Less time collecting water means more time in class, especially for girls. Without clean water or proper toilets at school, teenage girls would have to stay at home for a week each month.
Time: Convenient access to clean water means more time can be spent growing food, earning an income, and going to school--instead of spending up to 4 hours a day walking to collect (dirty) water.
Women Empowerment: When a community gets access to clean water, women and girls get their lives back, allowing them to start businesses, improve their homes, and take charge of their own futures.

AFC is honored to be a part of Charity: Water's mission in solving the water crisis in our lifetime. Our first well is under construction in Cambodia, and our goal is to provide 7 wells in 2019. We cannot wait to see how many lives we can transform through access to clean water. If you would like to learn more about Charity: Water or join us in supporting their efforts to bring clean water to those in need, you can do so here!
